Help Our Neighbors: Smyth Elementary School Needs Supplies For Remote Learning Success
We are neighbors in the West Loop and the greater Chicago area who are joyfully coming together to support the students, parents, staff, teachers, and Principal Dana Turner of Smyth Elementary School by helping buy essential supplies to support the students of Smyth Elementary School on Blue Island Ave as they start remote learning!
On September 4th, volunteers will be joining school teachers and staff to pass out the supplies to families to ensure students are ready for class on Monday, September 8th.
Chicago Public Schools will be providing essential technology and internet access for students however, we would like to meet other needs for students to be successful in their remote learning.
We will use funds to buy other essentials for students including:
Polo Shirt uniforms that students will be required to wear in video classroom time – two polos per student, coordinated with the Smyth Parent Advocate for proper sizing (quoted at $4,800).
Other supplies needed by students include whiteboards & dry erase markers to be able to write their answers and show their teacher via video, and noise-cancelling headphones to help students concentrate even if they cannot physically distance in a quiet room in their home.
We will also be doing outreach to local businesses for donations to support the students and families during this challenging time. If your company would like to donate something for our neighbors to give away on September 4th, please get in touch with us at westloopprogressives@gmail.com.
Any additional funds raised will be utilized to support our neighbors and we will post updates of how 100% of the funds are spent!
All donations are 100% tax deductible thanks to the generous partnership with the Pilsen Neighbors Community Council (EIN 36-2439939) who will be supporting this effort along with West Loop Progressives and all of you! Thank you!
