The Temporary Visitor Driver’s License (TVDL) became effective on July 1, 2014. Over the years, this driver’s license has allowed people without visas and undocumented immigrants the opportunity to drive safely in roads without any legal repercussions. However, this temporary driver’s license is not a valid form of identification in the state of Illinois, it is just a driver’s license but IS NOT VALID FOR IDENTIFICATION PURPOSES.
Pilsen Neighbors Community Council and Gamaliel of Illinois and Iowa (GOII) have launched a campaign to demand a standard driver’s license for undocumented immigrants that can also be a valid form of identification.
Let’s demand the removal of distinguishable markings, like the color PURPLE, and instead make the license the same color as all IL residents, RED. Let’s make the Temporary New Visitor Driver’s License (TVDL) a standard driver’s license!
As it was signed in support of the TVDL – I VOTE ID FOR ALL campaign, we believe that its implementation would benefit all of our undocumented immigrants and the state of Illinois. We call on Secretary of State-elect Alexi Giannoulias and elected officials to make the TVDL a standard driver’s license.

La Licencia De Conducir Nuevo Visitante Temporal (TVDL) entró en vigencia el 1ero de julio de 2014. A lo largo de los años, esta licencia de conducir ha permitido a las personas sin visa e inmigrantes indocumentados, la oportunidad de conducir de manera segura en las carreteras sin ninguna repercusión legal. No obstante, esta licencia de conducir temporal no es una forma de identificación válida en el estado de Illinois, es solo una licencia de conducir pero NO ES VÁLIDA PARA PROPÓSITOS DE IDENTIFICACIÓN.
El Consejo Comunitario de Vecinos de Pilsen y Gamaliel de Illinois y Iowa GOII han iniciado una campaña para exigir una licencia de conducir estándar para inmigrantes indocumentados que también puede ser una forma válida de identificación.
Exijamos la eliminación de marcas distinguibles, como el color MORADO, y en su lugar hagamos que la licencia sea del mismo color que todos los residentes de IL, ROJO. ¡Hagamos la Licencia De Conducir Nuevo Visitante Temporal (TVDL) una licencia de conducir estándar!
Como se firmó en apoyo de la campaña TVDL – YO VOTO ID PARA TODOS, creemos que su implementación beneficiaría a todos nuestros inmigrantes indocumentados y al estado de Illinois. Hacemos un llamado al Secretario de Estado electo Alexi Giannoulias ya los funcionarios electos para que hagan de la TVDL una licencia de conducir estándar.
